Queenstown Karate Club

Kia ora and welcome! We are a small karate club with experienced karate-ka in the heart of Queenstown New Zealand!

Founded in 1989, we are one of the oldest martial arts clubs in New Zealand and focus on self-defense, strength, coordionation and flexibility which we learn through the medium of "old school" Goju Ryu Okinawan karate, one of the most popular styles of karate in the world and by far the most popular in New Zealand.

We are a super personable club and love meeting new people, we are not incredibly formal (so don't be put off coming and visiting us!) although we do use a lot of Japanese language (all you need is English though!).

The club operates as a form of community service for the Wakatipu basin, no one is paid to teach, and we train because we love karate and teaching is our way of giving back. As a result of that the fees are very low which makes the club financially accessible to many people.

We run junior and senior classes and would love to meet you! Keep scrolling for more information!

We hope to see you soon!

Chris has travelled to Okinawa, Japan multiple times and has successfully passed his 2nd and 3rd dan black belt gradings under the IOGKF World Chief Instructor in Naha.

We train in the QPACT halls on Ballarat street in the Queenstown CBD.

Senior
Karate
7-8pm Monday/Thursday

Our senior karate classes are friendly, varied and highly effective!

We have had students from 13 right through to 65 (and beyond!) years of age. Karate offers a huge amount for people of all ages, all shapes and all genders.

The friends made in the dojo, forged with sweat and hard work last a lifetime.

Karate is an incredible art form because it changes to fit whatever you can or can not do. You do not need a partner to train, you do not need fitness, flexibility or strength to start your journey - you just need to show up!

We train in the QPACT halls on Ballarat street in the Queenstown CBD.
